How to Start a Real Estate Career
2 min read—
After passing your California real estate exam with one-on-one tutoring from Ian Medina and CA Real Estate Tutors, here’s how to get started in your real estate career:
Submit Your License Application:
If you didn’t apply for your license at the same time as your exam, complete and submit your Salesperson License Application (RE 202) to the California Department of Real Estate (DRE) as soon as you receive your passing results. You’ll also need to complete the fingerprinting (Live Scan) requirement.
Pay Licensing Fees:
Submit all required fees with your application. The DRE cannot issue your license until this is done.
Find a Sponsoring Broker:
You must work under a licensed California real estate broker. Research brokerages—consider factors such as training programs, mentorship, business support, and company culture—not just commission splits.
Activate Your License:
Once you select a brokerage, they will help activate your license with the DRE so you can legally conduct real estate transactions.
Start Networking and Building Your Business:
Join local and national real estate organizations, participate in office training, and begin marketing yourself. Consistently attend open houses, use social media, and connect with other professionals to build your network.
Continue Education and Seek Mentorship:
Leverage your relationship with a mentor, Ian Medina and your new broker for ongoing learning, and stay updated on market trends and regulations for long-term success.
Beginning your career this way gives you a strong foundation for success as a new California real estate agent.
